Here’s another reason for men to believe the old saying about breakfast being the most important meal of the day: New research shows that men who skip breakfast may be more likely to have a heart attack or die from coronary heart disease than men who don’t.
The information is reported in the American Heart Association journal Circulationand the numbers are jarring:
- Men who reported regularly skipping breakfast were 27-percent more likely to have a heart attack or die from coronary heart disease than men who didn’t.
- Men who eat late at night, especially interrupting sleep to eat, were 55-percent more likely to get heart disease than those who didn’t.
What you eat for breakfast – or, if you must, for a midnight snack – can be a factor, too. Starting your day with a healthy balance of nutrients, such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals is always a good idea.
